Welcome to The DeHavilland Flying Academy
We have one goal in life - to provide you with a flight experience you wont forget in a safe and professional environment. We aim to create memories which will remain with you for a lifetime.
We provide a range of DeHavilland DHC1 Chipmunk flight experiences of various durations to the more advanced training for qualified pilots such as converting onto the Chipmunk and aerobatic flight. We specialise on the DeHavilland DHC1 Chipmunk. We can however connect you with our friends and colleagues who are co-located at White Waltham and provide flights in the Tiger Moth North American Harvard and the two seat Hurricane - we are happy to put you in contact if this of particular interest or contact them direct at Ultimate Aerobatics & Hurricane Heritage.
We can organise flights as gifts for that special occasion, perhaps a personal flypast for an event or even as a corporate reward for an act of outstanding achievement.
We canorganise and operate vintage tours and air rallies (bespoke design) - tour the battlefields of France in a formation pair, visit many of the all grass airfields of England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. For the more adventourous - how about a trip further afield to Gibralter or Morocco?
We can offer tailwheel differences training, bi annual flight reviews and an intro to aerobatic flight amongst other things - the sky really is the limit.
We are based at White Waltham airfield, West of London near Maidenhead, a former WWII all grass airfield full of atmosphere and character. It was the former home of many an aviation legend such as the DeHavilland Flying School, The Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) and the Fairey aviation company. Find our more here: WLAC ATA Fairey
The airfield was set up in 1928 when the de Havilland family bought 196 acres of grassland to house the de Havilland Flying School. In 1938 the airfield was taken over by the government, and during the second world war was the home base of the Air Transport Auxiliary. The airfield was also home to Fairey Aviation. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was taught to fly at White Waltham in 1952, flying a De Havilland Chipmunk belonging to HQ Home Command Communications Squadron of the Royal Air Force. The airfield stayed in RAF hands until 1982, when it was purchased by the current owners. Until recently (2007), it was the base of Thames Valley air ambulance helicopter.
Please note: the organisation does not operate on a full time basis and flights are limited and organised by prior arrangement only.
The aircraft are used for display events and availability is therefore limited. Unfortunately we can not always satisfy everyones needs as a result.
Our secondary goal is to promote the excellent work of organisations close to our heart through the means of aviation:
